(Re)purpose law for individuals

What is (re)purpose law for individuals?

(Re)purpose law is a five-week online course which combines Indigenous wisdom, Western science and art from both worldviews into a unique personal development journey for lawyers.

Who is (re)purpose law for?

(Re)purpose law is designed for forward-thinking lawyers from any jurisdiction, who want to navigate the world’s transition towards net zero, nature-positive, circular and resilient economy with the ability to think in a way that incorporates both Indigenous wisdom and Western science. Or in other words, with both of their eyes fully open.

If you would like to run (re)purpose law internally for your team, or with bespoke content, see our (re)purpose law for law firms and organisations course here.

What does the course content encompass?

Each week you will be given access to four chapters comprising a video, quote, written content and a journaling exercise. Once a week, the entire cohort will meet on a Zoom call to exchange individual experiences from the course in a facilitated small-group discussion. To learn more about the course content, download the course syllabus here.

How much time do I need to participate in the course?

We estimate five hours of engagement weekly to complete the course.

What is the course content based on?

The course content is based on the unique personal life journeys of our co-founders, Zaneta and Ryan, and their individual experiences living and learning with Indigenous communities around the world. We have also benefited greatly from external advice from Indigenous lawyers, leaders, as well as other legal practitioners. Learn more about our team here.

How does the course combine the Indigenous and Western worldviews?

As our logo suggests, (re)purpose law is centred around the principle of Two-Eyed Seeing. This is an approach to inquiry in which we come together to view the world through an Indigenous lens with one eye and an already known Western lens with the other. Two-Eyed Seeing has been used in a variety of Indigenous-partnered research projects, but little information exists about its application in the legal profession.

To our knowledge, (re)purpose law is the first course that brings this approach to life for lawyers. We invite you to join us to start your own journey towards seeing with both eyes in the wider context of bringing systems change on Earth.
